Speak Spiritual Decrees Over Your Life - It’s a Game Changer!
Spiritual decrees are phrases or statements that describe a desired outcome. Decrees are spoken aloud and are considered an extremely effective tool to focus your faith and align your thoughts with God's promises. When spoken daily, they not only shift your circumstances, they rewire negative mindsets that keep you from walking in God’s blessings.
Psalms 29:4 declares, “the voice of the Lord is powerful.” In Genesis 1-2, His voice spoke the world and humanity into existence. His voice always brings victory! What does your own voice say? Do your words align with God’s voice? Likewise, you need to be alert to the enemy’s voice that brings negativity, hopelessness, and fear.
Your thoughts will drive the words that flow from your mouth. In Luke 6:45, Jesus reminds us that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” This verse should remind you that your words reflect your true nature. Keeping God’s Word in your heart helps you not forget God’s truth and goodness so that you remain encouraged, equipped, and fortified by His Word.
The devil’s playground is the mind, and he tries to draw you into battle in the mental arena where he has the upper hand to bombard you with lies, accusations; keeping you from fulfilling God’s plans and purposes. Often when we cough or sneeze we say, “I hope I’m not getting sick,” or during turbulent times we might say, “I hope God will bring a breakthrough to my circumstances.” These spoken statements align more with fear than faith because there’s an undertone of belief that what you don’t want just might happen.
You are a spirit being called to exercise your faith muscle! Hebrews 11:1 tells you that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not (yet) seen.” But faith doesn’t say, “I hope,” it says, “I know.” I know because “God’s promises are yes and amen.” (2 Corinthians 1:20). That means His promises are certain and reliable. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that “God’s word cannot return void.” It means that God’s Word will always accomplish what God intends it to do.
So what does God intend for you? The Bible overflows with His promises. For starters, in Jeremiah 29:11, the Lord declares that He has “plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Can I get an “AMEN!”
If you have received the gift of salvation, you have been “given ALL authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19) The devil knows this, but he’s hoping you don’t. That’s why you must fight him in the faith arena by speaking the Word of God into the atmosphere. Stand firmly on God’s truth, and with the authority granted by Jesus Christ, speak forth decrees that have the power to change your circumstances.
Neuroscience has proven that whatever you think about most grows and takes root in your mind. Focus repeatedly on fear, and you will develop mindsets of failure, doubt, regret, and uncertainty. The devil knows your weaknesses, fears, and concerns, and skillfully uses them against you. When you allow fear statements to flow from your mouth, you come into agreement with the devil (and the lies) and you enter into a vicious cycle that keeps you trapped. Spiritual decrees break that cycle and diminish the devil’s influence over you.
The devil has no power of his own; only the power you willingly hand over. Read that last sentence again. Now read it again. Remember - what you think about most grows! If you focus on God’s love and His power and authority that flows through you, you build mindsets of faith, courage, self-control, and resiliency. Writing and speaking personalized decrees that align with God’s Word and prophetic promises spoken over your life, rewire fear mindsets and fuel your faith.
Jesus taught the power of the spoken decree to His disciples. He told His disciples in Matthew 17:20, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
When He ministered healing and breakthrough to people He never actually prayed for them “to be healed”; rather, He released decrees like, “Stretch out your hand; be made whole; and Rise, take up your bed and walk.” Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead by shouting, “Lazarus, come forth!” In regards to Jairus’ daughter, He said, “Do not weep. She is not dead; only sleeping.” Then decreed, “Child, get up.” When Jesus and His disciples were on a boat and a ferocious storm broke, rather than pray Jesus made a decree, “Peace, be still!”
Do you have storms you’d like to calm? Borrow a proven strategy from the Master’s playbook! Follow the steps below to write and speak faith decrees over your life and your circumstances.
Three key points to consider when writing spiritual decrees:
Biblical Alignment: Scripture is God’s will, truth, and promises. Use verses that speak to your heart and circumstances. Personalize the scriptures and weave them together with your own words.
Affirmations of Faith: God is deeply pleased when we demonstrate faith in Him. He sees it as a sign of our trust and reliance on His power and goodness. Focus your decrees on positive outcomes and of overcoming obstacles and challenges. Remember, faith is the evidence of things not seen (yet).
Power and Authority of Words: Once the decrees are written, they must be spoken aloud daily. When you do, you align yourself with God’s will and release spiritual power to manifest the desired outcome. Speak with faith and conviction!
Example specific decrees:
“God, I decree that my faith and trust is in you, and I refuse to rely on my own thoughts. Your truth is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. You will instruct and guide me to the solution I need.” (Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 3:5-6)
“Lord, I decree that the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much, so I continually thank you for the salvation of my family because your answers are yes and amen.” (James 5:16, 2 Corinthians 1:20)
“God, I decree that in You I have all I need. You make me strong and give me power to be courageous. You never leave me or forsake me. I thank you for the new job you’ve arranged for me.” (Deuteronomy 31:6-8, Isaiah 40:29-31)
Example general decrees:
"I declare that I am healthy and whole in body, mind, and spirit."
"I decree that my finances are prospering and abundant."
"I declare that I am free from fear and anxiety."
Write, memorize, and speak a new decree every 1-2 weeks. In doing so, you saturate your mind and heart with God’s truth. As you speak the words aloud several times a day, and every time you hear the devil whisper a lie in your mind, you build a faith fortress around your mind - a supernatural force field!

You must remember that “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4) The devil is a defeated foe. Do not wear yourself out in a mental battle or run around like your hair's on fire. Your job is only to reinforce the victory Christ already won on the cross. Write a decree today and the next time the liar starts mouthing off, shut him down with the truth of God flowing from your mouth!
